Campus Director

May is a teacher by heart. She has taught at the high school level, teaching Video Production. Working in television production for 20+ years has given her opportunities to work with the NBA, WNBA, XFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, college football, college basketball, and college baseball. Her skills in broadcasting extend to graphics operation, editing video (using Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro), camera operation, floor directing, satellite operation, and master control operating. May has been the Director of The Media Arts Center since 2024.

John has a real passion for technology. He makes sure everything works the way it’s supposed to when you’re in the studio.  If you have an IT related question, John has you covered. He’s the kind of guy you want around when you get frustrated and feel like giving up. John has been with The Media Arts Center since 2024.

Filmmaking

Cathy is a Charlotte-area actor and graduated from The Media Arts Center with our first film class in 2022. Her finished short film [class project] went on to win an award for Best Woman in Film. She has taught Film Production at The Media Arts Center since 2024.

Andy Buck

Film Production + Post Production

Andy has worked as a videographer and video editor in the news and documentary business for over 18 years. His mastery of film production and post production makes him a great addition to The Media Arts Center, where he has been teaching since 2024.

Creative Writing

John Casson is an Emmy award-winning Miami news reporter and producer. John Casson covered major events, including the 1996 World Series of the Florida Marlins, seven major hurricanes, and the 2000 presidential debacle in Palm Beach County, Florida. John is a graduate of [now called] The Media Arts Center’s program and has been teaching here since 1996.

Michael Chasin is an award-winning screenwriter and screenplay consultant. In addition to being a film school graduate, Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in business administration, and a master’s degree in human resources management. His passion for storytelling led him to teaching at The Media Arts Center since 2022.

ARROE COLLINS

Audio Production

Arroe Collins has been the voice of Charlotte radio for decades. He is also a seasoned podcaster and interviews many of his guests live, along with students, right in the classroom. Through Arroe’s podcasts, students have interviewed Geraldo Rivera, Al Roker, Joey Fatone, and others. He has been teaching at [now called] The Media Arts Center since 2012.

Social Media Marketing

Carissa became interested in social media when she was a student at [now called] The Media Arts Center in 2002. After graduation, she helped a major radio station launch its first-ever paid content site. She has since helped television networks and small business owners with growing through social media. She has taught here since 2019.

Audio Production

Ed Gigante led the video production department for one of the nation’s largest school districts, where he taught high school for 27 years and is lead television instructor at Connecticut School of Broadcasting. His passion and patience for students led him to The Media Arts Center, where he has been teaching since 2021.

Ryan Guill

Video Production

Ryan is another Media Arts Center graduate, class of 2015. After graduation, Ryan married his love for outdoor sports and video production and started a company called Sports Reelz. Today, Ryan and his team shoot college-level sports in the Charlotte area. Ryan has taught video production here since 2016.

Video Performance

Valerie Menzel has been a SAG-AFTRA member since 1992 and has been featured on-camera talent for various films, commercials, corporate videos and live stream events. Her clients include Bank of America, Discover Card, Safeway, Dick’s Sporting Goods, American Medical Association, Avon Products, Jim Shore, Real Health Superfoods, Allegacy, Ilio, Adult Dentistry of Ballantyne, MTV, PBS, and others. Valerie has been teaching at The Media Arts Center since 2016.

MIKE PEACOCK

Video Production

Michael Peacock is the managing owner of Kriss Ryan Media, LLC, based in Concord, North Carolina. He creates short and medium-length content and select consumer product advertisements. Mike trained in broadcast media at The Media Arts Center while working as a homicide detective and has created internal content with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department while working as a sworn officer. Mike has been teaching at The Media Arts Center since 2018.

Silke Rible

Video Performance

Silke spent more than 20 years in the news business both producing, writing and anchoring newscasts (including here locally in Charlotte and for NBC NewsChannel). She teaches video performance related classes and has taught at The Media Arts Center since 2024.

George Washington III

George Washington III

Audio Performance

George Washington III has represented companies like McDonald’s, Courtyard by Marriott, Nike, Gatorade, Time Warner Cable, Mountain Dew ICE, ROOT Sports Northwest, and Lowe’s Home Improvement as a voice actor. He is the app voice for the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Plus, George Washington III is the voice of DC Universe Online’s Green Lantern, John Stewart. George is a graduate of [now called] The Media Arts Center and has been teaching here since 2016.
